Device Development Engineer

Oxford PV is looking for a talented and motivated engineer to support our PV module activities in developing devices aligned to sustainable and new applications of our perovskite based photovoltaic device technology.

The role would ideally suit someone who is able to identify and implement routes to develop efficient, reliable and sustainable PV modules and be untroubled when tasked with duties outside of their comfort zone.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Responsibility of fabrication and characterisation of high efficiency, highly reliable solar cells and PV modules.
  • Technology transfer from R&D to pilot line solar cell production.
  • Advancing the efficiency and reliability of PV modules in a short timeframe
  • Demonstrating our PV module technology in a varied range of applications.
  • Evaluating and implementing sustainable materials, processes and routes to recyclability in our products. 
  • Willingness to travel and to undertake short secondments to our German site 
  • Ensuring tasks are appropriately prioritised, documented and executed according to agreed timelines
  • Complying with quality standards including record keeping and health and safety
  • Being a proactive team player who supports the work activities of other team members and contributes to multidisciplinary team meetings
What will you need to succeed in the role?

Essential:

  • This position is suited to someone who has a proven track record in the development and fundamental understanding of optoelectronic devices, particularly solar cells and PV modules.
  • Industrial experience of solar cell and PV module fabrication
  • Hands-on experience of designing and building demonstrator or prototype PV modules for a range of applications
  • Excellent communication, presentation and written skills
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills

Desirable: 

  • Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related discipline
  • Experience in transferring technology from lab to fab
  • Extensive knowledge of semiconductor materials, including perovskites
  • Extensive knowledge of PV module technology
  • Knowledge of optoelectronic device and materials characterisation
  • Project management skills, including managing external collaborations
